Hanging around on the canna lilies

One of the joys (?) of living in Houston is its semi-tropical climate. Summers are hot and humid which means that the average, slightly neglected garden, is inhabited by lots of reptiles and amphibians. Besides anoles and toads during the day and geckos at night, any unattended greenery is likely to be the home of small tree frogs like this character.

This guy appeared when I was thinning some canna lilies. He jumped onto my arm and I confess that I moved rather quickly from those lilies. When I realized what had joined me I was reminded of Gollum's quote in the Hobbit - "it is cold and clammy!" It is a little sad that even when we get old our "flight or fight response" can be triggered by such an innocuous little gem
